Application of Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) in Macroporous Polymers


Macroporous copolymers can be synthesized by suspension polymerization using GMA as a monomer, divinylbenzene (DVB) and/or triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC) as a crosslinker, and toluene and n-heptane as porogens.

Because the macroporous polymer has active epoxy groups, it is easy to be chemically modified, so that various adsorbents can be prepared by immobilizing ligands. For example, immobilized polymyxin can treat hyperlipidemia, and immobilized ornithine can treat systemic lupus erythematosus. Macroporous polymers can also be functionalized with mannitol to obtain adsorbents with multiple hydroxyls.


In addition to the above applications, glycidyl methacrylate GMA can also be used in adhesives, UV pressure-sensitive adhesives, automotive coatings, water-based coatings, etc. In general, since GMA itself has acrylate double bonds and epoxy groups, its application range is very wide.
